The root of this plant has been used for centuries in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to balance hormones, relieve menstrual discomfort, and support overall vitality.

How to Make Dong Quai Tea

Ingredients:

  • 1 teaspoon dried Dong Quai root (sliced or chopped)

  • 1.5 to 2 cups water

  • (Optional) ginger or cinnamon for additional flavor and warmth

Instructions:

  1. Add the dried root to a small saucepan with water.

  2. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20–30 minutes.

  3. Strain and serve warm.

  4. Drink 1 cup daily or every other day, particularly during menstruation or before menopause.

Tip: Dong Quai has a slightly bitter, earthy taste; adding honey can make it more palatable.

Precautions

Dong Quai is generally safe when used short-term and in moderate amounts. However, it should be avoided during pregnancy, as it may stimulate uterine contractions. Those taking blood thinners or hormone therapies should consult a healthcare provider. Prolonged use without medical supervision is not recommended.
